Project Description

Our team chose to make this website to inform audiences about Digital Information Access in Cultural Institutions. This included highlighting the key problems of Accessibility, Elitism and Inclusion, Information Sharing, as well as Language and Translation. The site also provides case studies and recommendations, as well as other relative tools and resources regarding digital access.

Methods
The website was built using WIX site builder and integrated custom Javascript for design features. Unsplash was a great resource for free-to-use images. Heavy research was also conducted to provide case studies regarding issues in digital access.

My Role
This was a group project to collaboratively build a website based on research and recommendations. My particular addition to the research and creation was the "Case Study 2: Interoperable Databases" and "Recommendations: Sharing" pages of the website. The other parts of the website were built out by the entire team as a group effort to include pages for our Inspirations, Glossary, About, and References.

Learning Outcome Achieved
Foundations of Museums and Digital Culture

Rationale
This project presented the opportunity for me to explore the current digital culture in the museum and cultural institutions, as well as level my skills in JavaScript and website building. It allowed me to delve into the importance of access to digital components and education can have a positive effect on museums.
After finishing this project, I realized that emerging technologies in the museum sector can provide diverse abilities for experience, curation, and information science within museums. However, recognizing their limitations for the social role of digital in museum communities can lead to gatekeeping and elitism of information. Researching and building this website led to my profound acknowledgment of what makes a successful digital experience, which impacts many parts of my career as a museum professional.
